Después de mucho buscar y dar vueltas, parece que he encontrado un sources.list con los repositorios que se pueden necesitar para (casi) todo, una vez organizado por áreas y quitando aquellos que solo eran repeticiones de los mirrors de Ubuntu.
Recomiendo sustituir completamente el sources.list de /etc/apt, y evidentemente despues de actualizar con sudo apt-get update necesitaréis importar algunas de las llaves para evitar los avisos de paquetes sin firmar.
Esto se logra con los siguientes comandos:
gpg –keyserver subkeys.pgp.net –recv KEY
Reemplazando KEY por la clave que te sale en el error al conectarse al repositorio al ejecutar ‘sudo aptitude update’
Luego ejecuta
gpg –export –armor KEY | sudo apt-key add –
también en este caso reemplazando KEY por la clave que te devuelve el repositorio.
(Nota: cuidado al copiar y pegar, lo que hay antes de kyeserver recv export y armor son DOS GUIONES)

Respecto a lo de cambiar US por ES, sería cuestión de probarlo, aunque es probable que solo obtengas así una copia de los mirrors oficiales. Inténtalo, actualiza y mira si te da error de línea duplicada.

Saludos muy bueno el articulo, solo tengo una pregunta:
Soy nuevecito con Ubuntu y todo esto del apt y los sources, que ventajas me trae esta nueva lista con respecto a la que ya tengo y que trae por defecto el Ubuntu?
Aunque la que tengo ya la he editado agregando cosas para el Automatix y la instalacion del Beryl..

Muy interesante el sources.list que publicas aquí. La única pega es que he obtenido un contratiempo que no sé si sólo me pasará a mi: al arrancar el gestor de actualizaciones de ubuntu, me solicita realizar una actualización de distribución pese a tener Edgy funcionando hace tiempo (¿?¿?). Al aceptar, preparando la actualización sale el error “Can’t install ‘ubuntu-desktop'” y me impide seguir.
¿Alguna idea? Es un tanto raro esto que pasa…
Por cierto: realicé el dist-upgrade y no obtuve ningún error

La lista es para edgy preferiblemente, si tienes Dapper te recomiendo que vayas a esta dirección http://www.ubuntulinux.nl/source-o-matic que te genera los sources.list automaticamente segun tus preferencias
Paso a paso seria:
sudo cp /etc/apt/sources.list /etc/apt/sources_old.list
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Ir a la pagina, rellenar los campos segun tus preferencias y darle al boton “give me a source list”
Cambiar el contenido del sources.list por este otro
sudo apt-get update
y listo!!!

Tenganle paciencia al repositorio tuxfamily por que cuesta mucho conectrarse a el, pero no lo borren por que tiene lo ultimo de lo ultimo: beryl con todos los filtros, flash9, y los ultimos drivers nvidia (los que nvidia todavia no pone en su pagina),y muchos programas mas.

Hola tengo un problema al actualizar atomatix2 ya que al abrir la consola le doy sudo apt-get update y me sale este error
Descargados 6929B en 16s (414B/s)
Leyendo lista de paquetes… Hecho

W: Tal vez quiera ejecutar ‘apt-get update’ para corregir estos problemas
Incluso en el gestor de actualizaciones me sale Aviso esta apunto de instalar software que no ha sido autenticado esto puede permitir que un usuario malicioso dañe oo tome control de su sistema…
Pues la verdad no he usado mucho el automatix porque me gustaia aprender desde repositorios y demas pero me gustaria aclarar esta duda … de antemano muchas gracias a todos

Estoy intentando ver un DVD original completando el sources.list como propones. No entiendo a qué KEY te refieres. he tecleado sudo aptitude update y me ha devuelto la dirección de un montón de repositorios, pero no veo cuál el la clave que tengo que escribir en lugar de KEY. ¿No basta con copiar la lista en mi /etc/apt/sources.list?

Como consigo los originales, que los borre por que no me funcionaba y pense que yo lo habia dañado con el vin, y al final era el nuevo repositorio que trate de agregar el que no funcionaba.
Aparte alguien me puede dar el repositorio para bajar pidgin.
